First week with a BANG! check out the photos….

“Reconfiguring Site has just completed its first week of the program with a BANG!”

It has been a jam packed, intense, exciting, and fun week.

In addition to our introduction day to one another and the Highline Picnic which followed, we had two seminars with guest lecturers Harriet Senie and Marlina Gonzalez, a visit at his studio with Tom Otterness, and a full day on Governor’s Island to see the Di Suvero sculptures and visit the LMCC open studios with a tour from Melissa Levin, the Director of the residency program there. We rented bikes, tooted around the island, and shared a picnic with lively discussions amongst the participants along with Kendal Henry, Marlina Gonzalez, Linda Norden, and Ed Woodham, all guest lecturers who decided to join us for the day!

And incredibly, program residents, within all this activity, have also begun their projects.

This week they are in their studios, thinking, writing, drawing, and visiting and revisiting sites that are possible projects for public art.

Having just visited with them yesterday in the their studios, I am excited about the work that is churning around in their heads and in the studios and sure that in the next few weeks, we are going to witness some thought provoking projects!

Thanks to all the faculty in this program and Keren Moscovitch for the inspiration contributions they continue to add to this pioneering course.

And to all the program residency participants, you are a pleasure to work with, what a great gang!

Keep up the good energy and work!”……. Anita

About Reconfiguring Site

It is an exciting era for public art as more sensitivity to the nuance of site is increasingly valued.
The public art residency at SVA offers an engaging and participatory “think tank immersion”. A one of a kind program that offers the participant exposure to the diverse ranges of art being made in the public realm today.
